i leave all chat turned off when i am playing, because i figure its really more of a distraction that its worth. every once in a while you'll gain some useful information, but it also makes it a lot easier to tilt, because you just hate people so much more. there's nothing quite like sitting through a couple of fish "breaking down" a hand when you're running bad.
do you guys think it helps more than it hurts? |

distraction [/ QUOTE ] what the hell? How can chat bother anyone? By reading it you can eaisly spot someone who is not very smart. Plus you can be nice to fish and keep them playing. Just try not to have it affect yoour play |

Actually, I actively enforce chatting.
I really love to see a 50/2/1.1 guy typing in his chat window: "What a fish you are! Keep on playing like this. You will donate me my happy meal for tomorrow." It is fun. OTOH: You can actually filter the guys who are a little more serious than ^homegame expertise^. I think chat is probably the best online tell you can have. |

i dunno. 99% of the time, about all i gather from chat is the fact that people, in general, are really stupid and annoying.

If you are tilting from it then obv. turn it off. However, making fun of the tagfish who is tapping the glass is both +EV and insanely fun!

everyone tilts. its just that some people are more in denial about it than others. chat can be a pretty big contributor to that, especially when people start thinking "man, i'd sure love to bust that guy" kind of thoughts.
its funny when i go through my hhs after a session, and see chat that i missed out on while playing. example: i raise with AK and get called by a shortstack in the blinds. i hit top pair, shortstacks checks to me with just over a pot sized bet behind. i move in and shortstack calls with a rag two pair. shortstack: nice try nice try what, retard? its not like i had nothing, and you made some sort of Ahigh/44 bluff snap-off. i dunno. i guess its more of a big deal the more you hate people. |
