$4/$8 B&M low set v coordinated board
Probably a familar story, but i would appreciate feedback.
Local Vegas Casino i dropped in on this weekend, i've never played there before but went as wife can play slots i've been at the table for about 15 hands and have done little, called a few hands, folded on the flop except once when i dropped on the turn. table has been averaged 4-5 to flop, about 1/3 go to showdown, but good hands shown down for winners...2 bets has been maximum on any round...i am down about $30 was full ring a few hands ago but is 7 players currently...older men like me except for 1 young guy in 20's i am SB; MP seems to be smart player, he limped/reraised with pocket AA to win a good pot a few hands ago, has played about 1/3 of the hands HJ seems to be another smart player, tricky aggressive post-flop and will play marginal hands preflop if allowed to Button is seems tight, passive so far, non-talker, but will play draws & i have not seen a raise from him, has won a couple of hands at showdown... PREFLOP 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] dealt to me in SB UTG fold, MP call, HJ call, CO fold, Button call, SB (me) call, BB check FLOP ( 5 players 5 SB) 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] what to do? a set but a scary board... slowplay? fast play? check/raise on flop or wait till turn? me bet, BB fold, MP raise, HJ fold, Button call, me 3bet, MP call, Button call with a set i figured i was likely ahead and 3 bet to define MP's hand more, i figured MP's raise was partially motivated to get HJ out of the hand...Button figured to be on a draw but i have a redraw to a house if he is going for a straight or flush...i figured 3 betting is more risky but i will have the others tied to the pot until the river... was this too high risk given the flop? Turn (3 players 7BB) J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] to make a board of 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] me bet, MP call, Button call with MP not capping i figured i was ahead and button was on a draw, so i bet out, crossing my fingers hoping for no spade and that gut shot was not made with the J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], if was raised i would have called and folded on the river if unimproved...any other ideas on how to play this round? River (3 Players 10BB's) A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] to make a board of 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] me check, MP bet?! button call, me call... yuck...i think button might have made his flush, MP betting did not scare me, as i did not think he would raise a flush draw on the flop with players to act behind him, and if he had AA he would have raise preflop...it was the button i was worred about....so on one shoulder i hear the voice of Ciaffone "the button AND the MP in for a raise on the river, your set is no good"; on the other should i hear the voice of Miller "the pot is sooo big, and its a hugh mistake to fold a hand that has even a small chance of winning with a big pot (12BB) is at stake"...i listened to Miller, what do you folks think? |

Re: $4/$8 B&M low set v coordinated board
I probably play it the same way. The only street where there is any question is the river, and while overcalling feels dirty on this board I think you have to.

Re: $4/$8 B&M low set v coordinated board
I think you played it well. You will see a lot of goofy plays with pairs and busted draws with boards like this. Call the river for the reason you said, ie the pot is so big. I think, in most low limit games, once out of every twelve times you will be right to call...jb
