Default First Vegas Trip - Advice Please

Hey guys,

I've been lurking in this section for about 4 months now. I have my first vegas trip comming up in 2 weeks!!!!! Im definately excited, however, I could use some advice as the "friend" who was going with us to show us aroud for our (me and college bud) first trip moved cities and stopped talking to us. ass. anyways, I'm staying at the bellagio and getting there on my 21st bday. I was told if you tell them this, they might upgrade wour room for free? True, no?

Where are some good clubs for college kids that have cheap drinks?

What are good places to look for chicks (besides the pool and the expensive clubs)?

Does anyone have any experience in the low buyin tourneys and what is soft/good to play?

I saw the food on a budget post, so I guess thats taken care of. You might say, bellagio on a budget, wtf? but im not paying for the hotel. I was planning to take about 1k there for 4 nights to spend/gabmol with.

Also, any soft 1/2 NL, 3/6 and 4/8 limit games that people would recommend?

All advice is appreciated. Im definately stoked about getting out there!!!

Probably not. But if you try the $20 trick you'll have better luck.

"Good" clubs that have cheap drinks? I'm not sure if those two things can co-exist. It's like a sliding scale from one to the other. How about you get really drunk before you go out? Or in the casino?

Hard rock.

How low? The Alladin graveyard one was good and cheap, not sure if it still runs? Ceasars has really good $100-ish tourneys.

Everywhere / Anywhere. They're pretty much the same everywhere. Bally's and other places where the "room" is on the floor will tend to attract more casual (read: bad) players. Plan accordingly.

low buy in tourneys (110-150) go downtown, either binions or the nuggett.
stay away from low-LIMIT games in the strip rooms, they are mostly all donkeys and your pocket kings will see 7 people on any givin flop. stick to no-limit!
and i know you said somewhere other than the pools, but the "free" pools to get in are you best bet on a budget. otherwise just hang around the exit door at one of the big clubs at around 3:30-4:00am
and if your only bringin 1k for the weekend, do a lot of drinkin in your room! bring a bottle of goose with you...trust me, you'll thank me later

also go to the PALMS any hour of the day or night! top notch talent!
if all else fails just call the phone number on one of those little "business cards" the latin gentlemen are passing out on the strip! its a sure thing

for soft 1/3 NL, go to TI (Treasure Island). Very, very bad players last time I was there. The poker room is small, but I think it is very comfortable (nice bright, cheery colors).

To get in the clubs for free get some of the passes that the guys hand out on the strip (you tip them a bit). They do actually work and can save you $30/$40 a time on entry, just as well cos it's 8 bucks a beer when you get in. Just make sure, if it says before midnight, that you get to the door at midnight- i.e start queueing by 10.

1/2 NL is appallingly bad (i.e good) in alot of places, it is the very minimum you should play. The 5/10 NL right there at the Bellagio is very nice, several guys who didn't even know the rules when I was there.

You want him to spend his entire trip budget on one buy-in?

OP, if you've really been lurking for the last 4 months, you must have seen the threads within the last few weeks that cover all your questions. Surf around a bit for threads in July.

$100 and under tournies -- i like the orleans more than the sahara b/c the blind progression is slower.

the sahara is good too but it keeps doubling after like level 5 or 6....but hey for $62, what can u expect?

i heard PH's tournies are good for under $100 as well.

my fav tourney is the nightly venetian. it's $130 for 2,500 in chips and $50 for 2K add-on. so $180 for 4,500 in chips. 30 min blinds and it has a much favorable blind progression.

if u can shell out $330, wynn is good with 45 min blinds and pretty gradual as well.

the caesars changed their buy ins but i believe it is $150 at 7pm (4K or 4500 in chips, 40 min blinds, but quicker progression compared to V) the 11pm is $120 and they have Fri/Sat tournies too...just check out their website.

i pretty much stick to orleans if i want <$100 and play at Caesars or Venetian for under 200.

another word of advice which has helped me out a ton since i moved here....store all the poker room numbers in your cell....call them 45 mins or so bfore u re gonna head out and see what the wait situation is....it took about a week or 2 of going to bellagio only to be stuck on a 30 name wait list bfore my [censored] caught on to just call them bfore.

No I'm just planting the idea of him taking more dough with him or thinking about it for the next trip.
