Jerry Yang = Story of Job
While all you suckers were expressing puzzlement at how Jerry Yang came from 8th place to Jamie Gold the WSOP FT, I had an epiphany. What was going on was clearly God's work, with Jerry Yang playing the part of Job.
Let's do a quick overview. Job/Jerry is a man blessed with many children and riches (6 kids and a $20k in chips, yo) with good faith in God. But on Day 2, Satan convinced God to test Jerry, and God struck Jerry down with a plague that wiped away all of Jerry's chips except for a measly $3400. He could see his dreams of putting his children through school and helping out his charities fading away as he was all-in with a pair of fours. "Surely," Satan said to God, "Jerry will abandon you now that he is arrreeeeeen with 44." But Jerry's faith held. He prayed to God, and prayed hard for a set on the flop. "Look," God retorted, "Jerry praises me still! This is truly a man of great faith. I shall reward him tenfold for rejecting Satan." Sure enough, a four in the door and Jerry was back on his way. Lest we forget God is a very benevolent God. He returned Jerry to good (chip) health, and condemned those who cursed him, most notably the 8 other players at the final table. He rewarded Jerry for his faith by doubling his riches and with an 8 on the turn against Lee Childs. With God once again on his side, Jerry felt empowered. He studied his opponents hard, and when he sensed weakness God gave him the strength to raise, reraise, push all-in or call even if he had nothing. Jerry continued to sing the praises of God as he did the lord's work, eliminating all but one of the heathens. But Jerry's test was not over just yet. Satan had one more temptation up his sleeve in the form of an A-Q. He made his last stand against the Lord, granting Tuan Lam the queen to trump Jerry's eights and finally win his support. Jerry protested - he was an innocent and good man, and did not deserve this 6-outer punishment! Jerry said to his railbirds, "Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?" Impressed with his display of faith, God sent his only son down to earth to make good where there was evil. The dealer felt the touch of Jesus and dealt Jerry the miracle of miracles - yes! A runner-runner straight! Jerry rejoiced in God and Jesus' love. He lived a long and fruitful life with his $8.5 million and Coren watch, and lived long enough to see his great-grandchildren be able to say, "Surely this man was not the worst WSOP winner ever, for we have Robert Varkonyi in the winner's gallery." |
