CC w/ a10o in sb
Posting cuz i was briefly observing a 40/80 game, and saw baronzeus call a hijack raise w/ a10 in the sb in a 6 handed game. Can someone explain to me the merits of this play? I thought of most of the good high stakes players generally subscribe to the 3bet/fold camp in the sb. And if they do coldcall, a10o definitely does not seem to be the type to do so with.
flop came 8810, and he donked his top pair. if you see this, baron, would you mind explaining your reasoning on both flop and pre. thanks. **ive played against villain (much lower stakes), and i remember him as being pretty aggro, lag side of lag-tag, iirc. dont know his stats offhand. |

Re: CC w/ a10o in sb
without a read of any sort and the game playing typically the AT will be a 3bet, but there are lots of reads on HJ or BB that could sway this to a call.
you'll want to be thinking about the kinds of mistakes your opponents are proned to making and then taking advantage of them. Best, Bill |

Re: CC w/ a10o in sb
as an extreme example, you'd want to just call here if HJ were a player who could only open raise pocket pairs and could never fold them post flop.
or, a more realistic scenario could be if BB is a total retard and HJ is a very good player. (this situation could be close, but depending on how bad BB is it could very well be worth it) I used to play in a game regularly with a play who would only raise medium to big pocket pairs and was married to them post flop, so if i were to her left I'd always cold call even weak aces from the SB. maybe HJ is wacko crazy and will fight you for almost every pot making A high hell to play and if he's good enough even make it encouraging to just call preflop, putting up a fight when you get something. I can easily imagine AT being too much hand to fold but not enough to 3 bet against a player like that. just some off the top of my head ramblings. i'm sure there are even more explanations. Best, Bill |

Given that he donked the flop it sounds his he misclicked preflop and didn't notice.
