How to keep newbies out of oot
bad threads started by newbies in oot, and the "what does my * mean" threads they start in other forums can easily be avoided.
under 2+2 Communities list oot as "oot" instead of "other other topics." under other topics start a "miscellaneous topics" forum. ignorant newbies would post in the miscellaneous topics forum not even knowing what oot is. |

we don't want to keep them out, we just want to break them in a little bit [/ QUOTE ] the star system is a rude trick to play on them, and i think it pushes new ppl away from 2+2. newbies are drawn to "other other topics" and have no way of knowing its actually a harsh community with strict rules for posting, and that their random idea threads would work better in bbv4l. oot has evolved into a community that has nothing to do with the purpose for which it was created, which is fine, but the need for a miscellaneous topics forum still exists. the way oot is run is bad for 2+2. |

[/ QUOTE ] poor defenseless posters. no way of knowing the rules... other than the stickied thread at the top of the forum that warns them in ALL CAPS to read before posting. you know, a rules thread that is common to just about any online community of a certain size? yes, a rude trick indeed. changing someone's title, what a travesty. lots of other forums have a 'warn' feature as well, and when we finally upgrade the software, expect ALL the 2p2 forums to be able to play such 'rude tricks' on their users. [ QUOTE ] oot has evolved into a community that has nothing to do with the purpose for which it was created, which is fine, but the need for a miscellaneous topics forum still exists. [/ QUOTE ] really? please enlighten us about the 'purpose' of OOT then, since you have been around the block a few times. there are FOUR miscellaneous topics forums on 2p2, OOT is only one of them, as well as a dozen other sub-forums for off-topic issues. most of the other sizeable poker forums also have lots of off-topic threads, many of them sanctioned by the moderators... i hardly think this is an area that is not being covered. but i wouldn't let facts get in the way of a good bitching and moaning session, not when there's some ill-defined, nonexistent problem out there for you to crusade against! godspeed, sweet prince! |

Re: How to keep newbies out of oot
"stickied?" what does that mean? list of rules at the top of forum, huh? what the...?
oh okay, now i see it. yr so right nt! please disregard everything i've said. obviously every single newbie is going to read every word of the sticky before they ever consider posting. i'm sure the newbies who missed that previously and got stars were just freak isolated cases, just a few hundred freak isolated cases, and i'm sure it will never happen again. silly me. |
