Re: in the Bunker...
i would guess that it is acceptable to leave it in a convenient spot that is least likely to be in anyone's line or influence a shot if possible

Re: in the Bunker...
Slightly off the lip that is opposite the line of play to the green/fairway.
That way nobody should hit the rake playing towards the hole, of course the rake might stop the ball from going in the hole, but that is the fair thing to do. |

Re: in the Bunker...
The only time I ever see a local rule about it, it says to leave the rake in the bunker. So that's what I do everywhere. Either that, or leave it where I found it, or look around and see were the other rakes are placed.

Re: in the Bunker...
with stuff like this, I defer to my mom's rules
put things back to where you found them. |

Re: in the Bunker...
It varies from course to course, some say to leave it in the trap, others leave them on the outside.
I'd guess its the level of maintenance that makes the difference. I used to work on a pretty nice course, and had to rake the bunkers occasionally and it sucked having to lean way over off the 'sand pro' to toss the rakes out of the bunker so you could get all the way out to the edge. Then I had to walk around the bunker afterwards tossing them all back into the trap. At a [censored] course they prolly more likely to leave them outside the trap so they can just get in and out quick. |

Re: in the Bunker...
I've played courses where there are stickers saying, "Please leave rakes in bunkers" and I've played courses w/ rakes that say "Please leave rakes out of bunkers" Basically no matter what you do it's not something anyone will look at you and say "Why is he leaving it there!!?!" unless its square in the middle of one.

[ QUOTE ]
is there an unwritten rule as to where the rake should be placed after raking the trap?? [/ QUOTE ] 1. Its called a bunker. You are not going to find the word "trap": anywhere in the USGA or R&A rules 2. To answer your question, it is going to depend on where you play, the USGA recommends leaving the rake outside the bunker, you want to leave it in a place it points in the direction of play, basically on the sides of the bunker when looking toward the hole. Other courses prefer you to leave it in the bunker, this is because the greens staff does not want to deal with moving bunker rakes when mowing rough and is a very accepted practice, just make sure it is placed in the same manner as not to stop balls with the handle blocking balls from rolling in the direction of play. |
