Default July Thread for Very Important LIMIT Hold \'em Discussion

this local casino that opened up has really crappy chips. i think they're made of plastic and slide all over the place when i'm trying to show off my fancy tricks. should i complain? i hate to be a whiner. i chose to sack up and not complain being the trooper that i am. i decided i just needed to adjust my strategy to the new plastic style. is that standard? isn't it important to be flexible in poker?

hope everyone has a safe holiday and a good month.

I started this month with my biggest pot ever; is that a good sign? Nope. Because 45min later it was all gone again.

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, 2 folds, CO raises, 1 fold, SB calls, BB calls, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 3-bets, CO calls, SB calls, BB calls, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls.

Flop: (21 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (7 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, CO calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Turn: (14 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (7 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 bets, UTG+2 calls, MP1 folds, CO calls, SB calls, BB raises, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls $4 (All-In), CO calls, SB calls.

River: (26 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6 players, 1 all-in)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero raises, UTG+1 calls, CO folds, SB calls, BB 3-bets, Hero caps, UTG+1 calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Final Pot: 42 BB

Results in white below:
SB has 8c 8s (two pair, aces and eights).
BB has Ad 6s (full house, aces full of sixes).
Hero has As Jh (full house, aces full of jacks).
UTG+1 has 7c 5c (flush, ace high).
UTG+2 has Qc 4c (flush, ace high).
Outcome: Hero wins 42 BB.

On a different note: I'm still not sleeping The score for this month is sleepless nights 2, rested zoijar 0. Especially last night, as I went to bed at 1am and slept at ... 8am. Beat. I decided to read the usage guide for the medicine I'm taking, and I discovered that between 1-10% of people taking it get sleeping disorders. Now, belonging to that group: that's a bad beat. Ironically enough, I'm taking the pills mainly because I didn't sleep well.

Ugh. That sucks.

By the way, my understanding is that a lot of medicines are like this; a side effect that actually exacerbates the problem it is supposed to be treating. For instance, I've taken NyQuil twice in my life, and both times, I was up until well past 4 a.m.

Yeah, I really wonder about that. So strange. Also not sure if I should continue taking them now. I guess I should and finish the 15 days; it's usually not a good idea to stop half way.

It happened to me with a prescription medication I was taking, and the doctor told me to stop taking it. I would check with your physician.

Call your doctor, as soon as you expect him to be in his/her office. A lot of these drugs have about 200 alternatives. If the one you are taking isn't working or has undesireable side effects for you, they probably only have about 199 alternatives.

Also, it isn't a bad idea to read the instructions right away when you are taking a new one, because then you might only have to suffer through the side effects for a couple of days before you realize that you are one of the 1% or whatever.

Ok. Either way it's always better to check with your physician than to self-diagnose on the internet. Should get blood test results soon, so I'll have to go see him anyway. I came up with a dozen possible causes by searching the net, but that seems to be the only way to really know

also, i see the QTs thread is still up. i had a great experience with QTs on Wed. night. i was playing 10/20 NL, which was a shot for me as i'm usually playing 2/5 and maaaaybe 5/10. the details are hazy, but i'll get the important stuff right:

villain has about $2800 and i cover.

2 limpers to me in MP, i limp Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img](i raise this quite a bit, this time i limp along), 2 more limpers, an unknown goofy-looking guy raises to 50 straight from the BB, we all call.

Flop($250.00): A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

PFR bets $125.00, one caller, i raise to $300.00 straight, folds to PFR who calls, caller hems and haws and talks about "how sick this will be" if he hits and calls.

Turn($1150.00): beautiful 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

check, check, i bet $950, PFR calls, other folds.

River($3050.00): 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

villain shoves for about $1500. i think i know what to do. what do you guys think. ignore the fact that this is the largest pot i've ever been involved in and i'm playing in a game that's relatively over my head. all this said i still think the correct play is pretty easy. i have about $2800 left in front.

I suck at NL... let's see, the only thing beating you is either the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] . Can he have any of these? He could, possibly, have AK with the k [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] , but then why only half a pot bet on the flop with all these draws? And the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ? I doubt he has a set of treys, he would've gone all-in on the flop.

What would be sick? You hitting, or him? Who is 'he' there?

I think you should just call getting 1:2, probably good 35% of the time here.

you are missing a very obvious hand that would have played it almost exactly the same as he did.

no, sorry. the caller trapped between me and the PFR said that; as it turned out he folded the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
