Default Baseball Tonight, Tonight

Forgive my ignorance but who is the grey haired guy on Baseball Tonight tonight? He's the most reasonable guy I've heard on ESPN in some time.

Steve Phillips?

I think he is decent. I much prefer Buster Olney or Tim Kirkgim or however you spell that.

yeah steve phillips is great

he made that really good trade for victor zambrano. i think he gave up a terrible lefty pitcher with injury problems.

Phillips making a great trade or dumb trade as GM of the Mets doesn't have much to do with his performance on BT imo.
I like him on there and think his points are better and more articulate than most of the analysts.

He is retarded and doesn't really even understand proper baseball approach and strategy, it really pisses me off that a guy like him was allowed to be GM of a MLB team.

Thayer,

True or False?

Question: Thayer would be a top 5 GM in MLB?

On the discussion of Bonds going to an AL team and DHing, Steve Phillips just showed his dismay by describing Bonds as "just like Giambi in that he walks a lot and hits some home runs, but when he's not hitting the home runs he's a baseclogger."

Sure Phillips is infamous for making that horrible trade. But everyone makes mistakes. What's important is that you learn from them. For example, the new GM Minaya was able to steal Ambiorix Burgos from KC just last December.
