i was wondering when it was a good time to move up in stakes

i mean between challanging youreself and just beating the stakes

or do you guys just set a bankroll goal to move up at that point ?

16k.

Take shots whenever you feel like it. I personally like being a bankroll nit, it keeps me sane.

I normally let my roll decide what I play. I'm good enough (and arrogant enough) to play at stakes significantly higher than my normal game. However, I absolutely abhor the swings. They piss me off way more than any specific hand will. So I keep to where I've got the buyins for it. I actually wrote down a few rules, similar to Chris Furgie's experiment. Now, I'm a little more liberal than that, but I sat down and wrote them out along with a spreadsheet to tell where I was and when I can move up.

I could care less about people respecting my raises. Thats just part of learning the players. Frankly, it's cool to define/redefine those players at every level. I'm content and happy to be playing online again.

Im moving at 12k...i nearly had it but had to cash 7k out

But yeah i think you should take shots when games are good...also depening on site you play as you progress through each higher level you will notice there are fewer and fewer games the higher you go so when you do move up you will still probally play 20-30% of your volume at your old level when you feel that the games are thin and you don't feel your edge in the game against the experinaced higher level players is big enough and drop down untill the games are ripe again

Thats my take/plan of it anyways

When you're on a disgusting downswing at your regular level.

- I take shots when I feel I'm at the top of my game.
- I move up for good when I feel my hourly rate there is higher than at my regular level.

My bankroll doesn't really matter in my decision to move up. As long as I can buy in at 4 tables and have a few buyins left to reload, I'll take it. When I moved to 200NL I had a 2.5K bankroll. If I get really unlucky, I can move back down or redeposit anyway (so yeah actually my total bankroll is bigger), but that has not happened so far.

when you reach 30 buyins move up. i've gone busto a couple of times ignoring this rule. when i stick to it, my roll is always healthy... so is my sanity.

You mean 30 buyins for the level above? AKA $12000 for 400NL?
