No Bloomberg thread?
I searched, and couldn't find one, which is weird - but I don't frequent this forum much, so maybe it's more theoretical.
Anyway, now that he dropped out of the GOP, a Presidential run seems more and more likely. I have a simple question: if you don't vote based on religion, why exactly would you vote for any other realistic candidate? It seems to me that simply breaking the two-party hold and being non-partisan is more than any other candidate can offer (and he is a free-thinker and good manager to boot). |

Re: No Bloomberg thread?
I actually hadn't heard about this, mostly because I've fallen behind with my newspaper. According to this NYT article, he's thinking about running as an independent to focus on issues like stopping global warming, illegal immigration and illegal guns, which I'm sure will win him a lot of fans around here. To be honest, I couldn't hazard a guess how much support he would draw.

Him running would be great news for the Republicans, don't you think?

Re: No Bloomberg thread?
Yeah, most people in this forum don't seem to care much for paying attention to real-world politics. They would much rather debate whether Ron Paul will betray the cause by refusing to dismantle the federal court system once he is inevitably elected president. I don't think he will decide to run until after the major-party nominees are decided. If Guiliani, Obama, or Gore are nominated, he probably can't carve out a distinct enough niche to be a viable candidate. I can't really project which party this helps right now...it really depends on the nominees. On one hand, Bloomberg is ideologically going to be more attractive to those on the left than on the right. However, in 2008, it seems like people who are inclined to vote Democratic are going to find less reason to defect than those inclined to vote Republican. |

Re: No Bloomberg thread?
He would need both of the major party candidates to agree on alot of issues, and him disagree with them for him to make a big splash. Suprisingly recent polling asked how Bloomberg would affect a Hillary V. Guliani race and he actually helped Hillary more.

[/ QUOTE ] No one has said that Ron Paul will "inevitably" be elected president. It is, however, only natural that people would be interested and excited about the only candidate who isn't a statist and would actually move this country back in the right direction. This country is much more statist at this point than the average person. (not saying the average person is libertarian, just less statist that the government is currently) |

Bloomberg is a total nanny state liberal and would leech legion votes from the democrat running, especially seeing as he has billions of dollars to campaign with. |
