since nashville wants to move to canada, i think the nhl needs to do the following:

1. contract the chicago blackhawks and st. louis blues
2. move nashville, phoenix, florida, washington, los angeles, the islanders and columbus to relatively large market canadian cities.
3. eliminate the east and west conferences and have the 14 canadian teams in a canada conference, and the 14 US teams in an american conference.

now that the stanley cup officially becomes a canada vs US affair, interest will almost certainly pick up, and ratings will be slightly above spongebob episodes!

I actually like OP's suggestions a lot. And for you O 6 haters, so just leave Chi alone and move another team. Also increase fighting and I think ratings go through the roof. We would love the US vs. Canada rivalry.

If you're worried about U.S. ratings for hockey matches, take note of the average final score of a basketball game vs. the average final score of a hockey game.

Scoring goals is exciting. If you want to boost Hockey ratings, the owners just need to start recruiting horrible goalies.

Or eliminate the goalies altogether.

And encourage fighting.
