Default My knee is slowing down about this global warming thing

Hmm. Sensible leftists (i.e., credible sources) are sharply questioning the idea of human caused CO2 disaster.

Alexander Cockburn says geologists are being ignored in the warming debate, and they are unconvinced that warming is manmade.

Roundup of scientific heterodoxy

Are you saying Algore is not a sensible leftist?

I believe he is saying some, not all.

An interesting article, although the author clearly has a strong opinion, and it really is an editorial rather than a balanced analysis. Clearly there are some scientists out there that don't agree with the mainstream climate change theories. But do "all" geologists really disagree, just because one or a few scientists say so? I'd be curious to find out. I'm pretty convinced that the climate change evidence is pretty conclusive, based on extensive personal research. But I'm always open to different opinions.

It's pretty easy to pick apart almost every one of Cockburn's 'claims'.

Specifically on his assertion that CO2 levels lag behind temperature rises: http://www.realclimate.org/index.php...2-in-ice-cores
and
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php...-temp-and-co2/

And on why water vapor is being 'ignored' by the models:

I'm a long ways from being persuaded by him.

But he is convincing when he says the consensus isn't what we've been told. Not because the consensus does not include every individual shill and nut, but because, according to Cockburn, it does not include one whole discipline -- the geologists.

There are reasonable scientists who don't believe that global warming is as big of a threat as many are claiming. These scientists don't, however, doubt that we are contributing to global warming. It's an indefensible position.

hey taraz what did your friend say about solar geologists or astrophysisicsts or whatrever; is their input used in the global warming models?

I suggest you go to one of the major American Geophysical Union meetings. You will quickly find out Cockburn is full of crap. Or you could subscribe to their journal are read the stuff yourself. Or you could go to the USGS's website and see they were endorsing the IPCC all the way back in 1995 as the "most authoritative report on this issue":

http://geochange.er.usgs.gov/info/faq.html

Normal geologists generally don't study climate change unless they move over into the field of paleoclimatology or geophysics. The schools overlap a lot so people switch back and forth. In short they have the same degree but just a different field of work. Btw if you go to realclimate.org you will see more than one person with a Ph.D. in geology.

Cockburn also cites Jaworowski who questions the CO2 record. Citing Jaworowski is one of my favorite idiot tests. The CO2 record is rock solid and Jaworowski prefers to use highly unreliable measuring devices/techniques from 1890 over extremely accurate IR spectrometers. It's like saying a blind man with a sundial is more accurate than a nuclear clock. ... more on that later. But in short Cockburn is a joke and couldn't be much worse if he tried.

God, I love it when Wacki drops by to lay the smack down on global warming disbelievers.
