Default MLB draft thread

just a heads up in case anyone that cared didn't know/forgot that it's on espn2 live right now. Sadly, Steve Phillips is involved.

I'm watching. So surreal to see Bud up there saying "with the 2nd pick, the Kansas City Royals select..."

Can't wait to see how the M's blow it with the 11th pick!

Seems like they are forcing every team to take the full 5 minutes for TV purposes.

The MLB draft sucks. There's no actual strategy involved like there is in NFL drafts. There will be little, if any trading and all the GMs do is draft off of some sheet of ranked players. They all go BAP. Boooooorrrrriiiiinnnnnngggggg...

There's no trading because it's not allowed.

I'll be interested to see if the televised version of the draft ends up affecting Scott Boras and his clients at all. If the audience for the draft grows, which baseball will keep pushing since this is really a good thing for the minor leagues, I'm wondering if "being drafted high" will gain the cache that it does in other sports.

Right now, I think Boras can easily tell clients "don't worry about falling outside the top-10, etc, you still get paid". If this becomes popular, I wonder if egos will start to get in the way and guys will be a little more insistent on being a top-10 pick, etc. I guess we'll see, probably won't have an impact on Boras but maybe it will decrease his impact slightly.
