calling 3bets with small pairs is generally bad. However, in this situation it is 3 handed and he gave you great odds, so a call is fine.

You have 11.8% to hit your Set. If you hit, you will win 91% of time against an overpair. This means, you will lose 88.2% 12$, will win 10.6% of time 196$, and lose 1% 196$ (when you can stack him). Given this circumstances, a call has an EV of 8.23$. This call starts to get positive EV if you can get at least ~ 120$ out of him. So you must be sure, that he is willing to play for his stack for more than 60%, to make this call +EV.
I hope my calculation is right. |

*grunch* That ALL depends on whether your opponent will stack off with top pair (or hopefully with an overpair he already has)when you hit your set. Then it becomes a simple matter of pot odds. You have to call 12 to get about 190 when he stacks off. Thats 15.8-1. Your odds of flopping a set are 8-1. Thats great, but its still not that simple. He wont go all-in whenever you flop a set. Oviously the best opponent here is a nit who drastically overvalues top pair/overpair. Its very read-dependent, but here I would call I guess.

If you extract more than 120$ out of him, this call is +EV. If you dont open push a 238 one-siuted flop, its very likley to get this amount. Imagine any Flop with a 2. The Pot is 45, and he will bet about 30-45 with an overpair oop, you can raise, or trap him, but there is good chance to get at least 120$ from him. |
