Put deposit on vehicle, Dealership not honoring - whats my play?
I put a deposit on a vehicle and the dealership is now saying they cannot get it for me. Whats my play? The vehicle I want to purchase with specific options is almost unavailable in Canada now.
Day 1: I went to a Dealership that told me they would be able to get my exact color and options. I worked out a great deal with them put a $2k deposit down, signed all the papers and got my financing started. Day 2: they called me to tell me my financing is still being reviewed. I was originally told I would get a firm date of when I could pick up the vehicle but this did not happen. Day 3: they tell me they are unable to obtain the vehicle for me. Apparently they thought they could Dealer trade it from another Dealership however this Dealer had already sold it. At the time of purchase I was told there were 3 vehicles available in Canada that fit my specific options. 1 of these vehicles was my 2nd color choice. Now there is only 1 available in Canada that was my least favorite color choice. Dealership is offering to get me that vehicle instead but is refusing to budge further on price or give me extract incentives unless I go with a different model on their lot. Anyone have any advice on how I should proceed? |

May be a play by them...demand your deposit back and then see what they do next.
btw whats the car? Dealers may be more willing to deal on a car that doesnt sale as often as say a Honda or toyota that they dont need to do much bargaining on |

Hello. I worked for a car dealership for more than two years.
This kind of stuff goes on all the time. If they said they could get it for you, TRUST ME, they can get it. Likely, there just wasn't enough money in the deal for them. Sorry, but dealerships suck. They don't have much integrity. Good luck finding one somewhere else! |

The deposit is supposed to be refundable however I have not asked for it yet.
JohnnyWadd: Other dealerships have told me they are unable to get the vehicle as well which means im out of luck if this deal falls through. Vehicle Mazda RX8. Btw anyone have thoughts on these? Perhaps ill start a thread. Maybe im making the wrong choice any ways |

The only power you have is to cancel the deal. You probably aren't going to get the car you want from these guys, so cancel the deal and start over either with a new dealer or another car.

Re: Put deposit on vehicle, Dealership not honoring - whats my play?
As a car salesman, maybe I can help you out In California (where I work) you don't take full ownership of the car until you "take delivery" and drive the vehicle home. I would figure that this principle applies generally in North America.
Some cars in specifics combinations are hard to find and your dealer may have a hard time getting it. Not all dealerships will trade with one another for a variety of reasons. In this case you should be able to call the dealership and just tell them you want to cancel and to destroy all the paperwork. My advice is to call all over the country and find the dealer with your car and just buy it directly from them and have them ship the car to you. I ship cars all over the USA and I am sure you can ship within Canada. Good luck. |
