Default Grrr bad rule at CAZ, no opening your hand in ring games

Thought I would get this out there, since there are quite a few CAZ players here, and to get some action taken too.

So I was playing some 10-150 last night, there is some action and on the flop we have two aggro players one betting the other RR max and it comes to a point while HU that the players exposed a single card each shortly before one mucks.

No big thing right, everyone knows you can open or expose your hand (one or both) during cash game play while it is HU.

Apparently not at CAZ, the dealer went off on the players. She was professional and enforcing the rules, I can not fault her at all. The table is mostly seated with veterans of the game and we are shocked and got her to clarify her statements, she did, and nope we did not hear her wrong, you can not open your hand regardless of the situation.

Well of course I am not taking such a drastic "ruling" from the dealer, I want to hear it from the floor. Ricky comes over and I explain the question, "Can you in a cash game, HU facing action expose your cards?". Ricky does a good job and makes sure he understands the question, he does, and yep the rule is correct. I give him a rash about it, and he runs off to the desk, talks to the super and pulls a binder from under the desk and flips thru it and reads it with the super, comes back and yep, it is in the rule book...

Table is upset but accepting of the rule, play was not stopped for any of this for you nits...

Anyway, a few minutes later, I spot the tribal gaming official (TO) walking to the cage and got up to talk to him. Now this is where it is getting bad to say the least...

I explain the question and what happened up to the point I talked to him. He explains that he over sees the casino and is not all the familiar with all the specific rules of poker. OK fine, but what is your opinion since you are in charge here...

TO: "Well I dont think we can allow that type of thing because it would influence the other player's action."

Perc: "No offense, but you have to be kidding right?!?! Poker is a skill based game (he cracks a smile just stopping short of laughing) in which the point is to influence the other players decisions in any hand that is played. Roberts rules of poker clear show that this is an accepted play in HU cash game play, and the standard rule in the vast majority of poker rooms in the world."

TO: "Well I am sorry, but we simply could not allow that type of thing".

I thanked him for his time and commended him on their otherwise nice casino.

When I was leaving I ran into Ricky at the cage, and told him I was going post this on 2+2. He told me that the rule book comes from the state, and that if I wanted something done, I should write to state gaming board. Frankly I have been hearing about this "state rule book" around here for so long now, maybe it really does exist...

I never did get a "ruling" as to what would happen if the situation came up... after all any experienced player knows that bad things can happen when you break a rule.

Yeah. I was pretty sure that there was an earlier thread about this very rule at CAZ but I searched in vain.

As a matter of fact, yes. Two different dealers scolded players that were HU when they started talking about what they might or might not do or what they might or might not have for cards...

This maybe table dependent as we had two of Howard's favorite type of players, one that needed a good KITN for the crap he was pulling, but after talking with him, I seen it would have done no good what so ever, you have be intelligent enough to understand the words being spoken to you... This was the first session I booked since you made your "stink".

It was very evident that it has had a effect on the dealers. I was a little a taken back, when dealers started speaking up. Too bad the main target was too stupid to understand anything beyond he was "being picked on"...

BTW, thank you for the efforts, I think it will end up with an overall positive result.

I'm glad I play low-limit -- I haven't seen much of the nittiness from the players or the dealers, before or after the rant by Howard.

Thanks, and I hope so. I'll say though that I don't think they should interfere with HU players. I never mentioned it and what HU players do never bothers me. It was the 3rd party interference that got me going. Let's see what happens. Hopefully, with managements attention focused on the matter, it will work for the best.

It's a long one. Get a tall drink and a recliner and read for a long while.
