Default Registry Cleaners

I was recently made aware of registry cleaning (computer newb) and downloaded Eusing free registry cleaner and got a real lift in performance. When I download the trial of "Registry Mechanic" it says I still have 350 or so outstanding issues above what the Eusing was capable of. Is it worth my while forking the 50 bucks for one of the more sophisticed versions or is the difference likely to be minor.

I've really never bought into the whole "registry cleaning" idea that it's really very beneficial. I will admit that one free product I use alot has a built in reg cleaner that I use just for the heck of it. Whether it really makes a difference....who knows. Google CCleaner or Crap Cleaner and download the software (free) and built in is a reg cleaner along with several other cleaning tools. Pretty handy little app. I also like the fact I can go into my cookies and tell it to never delete my cookies from 2+2, Ebay, Yahoo, Amazon, etc and that way I don't have to re-login every time I clean out my Firefox history, cache, cookies etc using CCleaner.

I'm not bold enough to use a general registry cleaner.

I use Driver Cleaner Pro (which I believe is no longer supported for free ) to clean out sound card/video card/motherboard drivers when I upgrade hardware or drivers, and it's always worked real well.

Registry cleaners can be quite dangerous.

And the registry hive does not shrink unless the utility compacts it, which is another dangerous step.

Honestly, it's probably easier to reload your computer from time to time. That's the best way to "clean" it.

Tune-up Utilities includes a Registry Defrag tool. It also backs up all changes so you can revert. I like this tool so much that I bought it.
