Points Tourneys?
I don't know how the various shows work, but someone pointed me to Hansen's all-in fest on one of them, and it looked like 6-person single-table tourneys with points.
Has anyone run anything like that? I'm getting a little tired of the monthly "round people up" insanity. They're fun, but they're a lot of work. I used to have them every two weeks, then every three, now every month. I'm thinking of making it even more spaced out, but do weekly 6-person tourneys to accumulate points for some purpose. Not sure how it would work. I figure not everybody plays every week, as it'd be something in parallel with the cash game, as it wouldn't take the whole evening. I figure 7 or 8 people per week. How much of the pool should go for the week and how much for a grand prize of some sort? How should the structure work? Any ideas? I have my own I could work out, but just seeing what others have done, too. |

Re: Points Tourneys?
Check out what I just posted for "sdc"'s 2008 WSOP pool. You can adapt that for however many weeks its run, buy-in, end-of-season payout, end-of-season chip stacks, etc.

Re: Points Tourneys?
What kind of problems are you running into with your games?
I'm curious because I have to practically pull teeth to get them to show once a month now. As for our "poker club", well it's kinda sorta there and we are progressing, but slowly. Everyone wants to play, but things come up or they forget they've already reserved a seat at our game. I wish I could get a steady 8 player game (min) every 2 weeks. That'd be kinda nice. I've been asked by a couple of local clubs via the internet if I or a couple of the guys would be willing to play in their game, and to be honest, if I don't know 'em, I'm not playing. So, I rely on my friends, to tell there friends and so on, and so on...Anyhow, I'm not sure how to entice a good steady game. Sorry if I hi-jacked your post. Re: Points Tourneys?
Cool, I'll check that other thread, thanks.
pis, I have a decent game going, but I think it's starting to show some wear and tear. I think folks are realizing that the same people are winning every time. It's also a lot of effort to set up, whereas the cash games are no stress at all. |
