Live-Qualifier, JJ on the bubble, not the shortest stack - what to do?
Hi guys,
yesterday I played a live qualifier for the EPT. It was a satellite, where the top 3 advanced to the final tourney (where the 1st won a seat in the EPT). We started with around 20 players, 4 are remaining. Blinds are at 600/1200, I have a stack of about 2.400 (not very comfortable any more). The real shortstack with 600 (!!) is UTG. He just folded his hand and is in the next round automatically all-in. I am in the CO, being dealt JJ. What to do? The chipleader (with a huge amount of chips) sits in the SB. I tend to fold my JJ (at least I discussed with my girlfriend who gave me the advice to not even look at my cards any more but fold in the dark), what do you think? |

easy fold..but what do u mean you're in the CO? If shorty is UTG and you're 4-handed you would be the button if you're not on one of the blinds.

Re: Live-Qualifier, JJ on the bubble, not the shortest stack - what to
But is the question really this clear? At least - today - I also think it is ... but look at the alternatives: in the next round shorty gets the BB and is all-in. Let him have a coinflip, which he wins. Then he gets 1.200 chips and has survived another orbit as the sb just takes half the stack of him. When I´m through the next round of blinds I just will have 800 chips left ... which means that I am automatically all-in. What if shorty wins another confrontation? I wondered if my chances to get away from the knife with JJ wouldn´t be at least worth a try ...

you're right. because, next time arround you'll be on a coin flip and your pocket jacks may aswell be the best you get at this moment. I would push...

Fold JJ.
When shorty is all in BB, call and hope everyone checks it down to the river. 3:1 that he gets busted. |

[ QUOTE ]
Fold JJ. When shorty is all in BB, call and hope everyone checks it down to the river. 3:1 that he gets busted. [/ QUOTE ] This is the more interesting question: what to do next hand. If you fold you can survive the blinds barely. But that will mean that shorty survived his all in and will have you easily covered at that point, so surviving the blinds with 300 chips left (minus antes?) will be meaningless. So it seems better to improve the odds of busting him. I fold JJ and call from UTG next hand, putting it all on getting him out next hand. If you get raised by one of the other 2, what kind of range do you call the rest of your chips off with, if any, realizing that if you both bust, you win. |

Re: Live-Qualifier, JJ on the bubble, not the shortest stack - what to
This is a live qualifier and hopefully button and sb are savvy enough to pick up a tell.
I'd limp UTG but say something that wouldn't neccessarily be construed as collusion. Maybe like "Good Luck All-in. This hand either quadruples you up or busts you." Then smile at the other players and tap your cards like checking. |
