Am I Commited to call a pf shove with AKs?
Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $10/$20 6 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $2149 UTG+1: $4153 CO: $1903 Button: $2143 SB: $3234 Hero: $3088 Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, CO calls, Button raises to $110, SB folds, Hero raises to $350, 2 folds, Button raises all-in $2033, Hero ??? Table is all good TAGs. I've been only min-raising when opening pre-flop, and one guy has been liberally 3-betting me. Once we tangled when I cold-called a pfr, then he 3 bet from the SB, and I called then called his flop bet. He check folded. Another TAG raised my min-raise and I 4-bet and he folded. So it's been a typically aggro pre-flop table. One of the TAG started min-raising as well and I wasnt sure what to make of it. But that's another topic. So I come to the hand. Villain is a 25/17/2.9 and I havent tangled with him specifically yet. Those stories above were other TAGs. We havent been in a pot together yet. In fact, I dont think this guy really has got involved with anyone since I've sat. This is the first time I squeezed. Pot odds: $1683 to call to win $2433, 1.446 to 1. 40.9% equity needed for break-even. Now here's the scary part: If I give him the benefit of the doubt and say his range is only AA-QQ and AK: equity win tie pots won pots tied Hand 0: 41.904% 22.62% 19.28% 8133909 6934104.00 { AsKs } Hand 1: 58.096% 38.81% 19.28% 13956267 6934104.00 { QQ+, AKs, AKo } It's a call. But what if we throw out QQ! equity win tie pots won pots tied Hand 0: 40.246% 13.34% 26.91% 3425229 6911839.50 { AsKs } Hand 1: 59.754% 32.84% 26.91% 8435652 6911839.50 { KK+, AKs, AKo } It's almost break-even to call even if his range is only AA, KK, AK! The obvious other benefits of calling are: he could be bluffing with a [censored] hand - he raised on the button after 2 limpers - and it will dissuade people from reraising me pre-flop and shows them that I wasnt squeezing 2 limpers and a raiser. The con - he might not have AK - he may just have AA/KK and is shoving because he thinks I'm LAGgy enough that I might call his shove with whatever. I was a little hesitant because this particular guy hadn't been splashing around... if one of the guys I had previously been battling with had shoved, I would insta-call. Thoughts? |

Re: Am I Commited to call a pf shove with AKs?
You need 40.9% equity. I would call even if I knew that I was 40.2 because I hate folding in this type of confrontations. It creates a weak image. Also you should weight AK more than KK/AA since he might opt for a small 4-bet with KK/AA while he is most likely going all-in with AK.

Re: Am I Commited to call a pf shove with AKs?
anybody else like a bigger re-raise pf here? I like a 4x raise, I think making it 350 oop is a little too small here, I'd have gone 440 or so.
