Baseball\'s Top 50 MVPs
Nate Silver article here.
Overall, I only have minor gripes: I'd likely take Miguel Cabrera number one, I think Ryan Howard and Matsuzaka are too high. How smart people think so highly of Mark Teixeira is a mystery to me. The guy's already 27 and has a career OPS of .831 away from Arlington. Anyone here really think he'll be move valuable than Derrek Lee or Carl Crawford over the next six years? |

Re: Baseball\'s Top 50 MVPs
Saying Hanley Ramirez is as good as Jose Reyes is.. I disagree strongly. Both are amazing young talents, but Reyes hits for more power than Ramirez and is a better fielder, in addition to being blazingly fast (even faster than Ramirez).

[/ QUOTE ] I think you'd be shocked at how close they really are. Ramirez has pretty comparable power to Reyes. I won't claim to be as knowledgable as some others in here, but if OPS numbers mean anything, they're essentially identical based on last year. 2006 Reyes: .354/.487/.841 Ramirez: .353/.480/.833 Can't say I know the defensive metrics off-hand, but I'll take your word for it that Reyes is the better fielder, and speedwise, Reyes certainly steals more bags and at a better rate thus far into their young careers. I agree, I'd take Reyes over Ramirez as well. |

Re: Baseball\'s Top 50 MVPs
Nate's list makes me feel not crazy. I made a similar list before the season started... Its slightly different then the one I posted in whatever thread gave me the idea to do so because I moved Peralta down after many people pointed out how much he fell off last year. Nate's list is obv. better but he did have the advantage of one month's play this year Also, he came up with a nice projection system that I looked at once or twice when I was making mine. My list with his ranking in parenthesis:
1.Pujols(1) 2.Mauer (2) 3.Cabrera(4) 4.Wright(8) 5.Santana(3) 6.McCann(9) 7.Zimmerman(11) 8.Kendrick(26) 9.Sizemore(5) 10.Felix(15) 11.Gordon(23) 12.Tejada(24) 13.Ramirez, Hanley(6) 14.Reyes(7) 15.Howard(14) 16.Peavy(13) 17.Webb (16) 18.Beltran(12) 19.Hafner(21) 20.Jeter(31) 21.Matsuzaka(19) 22.Sheets(NR) 23.ARod(10) 24.Peralta(NR) 25.Vlad(18) |

Santana were a free agent, his services this season would be worth $28 million [/ QUOTE ] woot only paying him 10, though its going to be really tough for MN to keep him after next year |

Re: Baseball\'s Top 50 MVPs
Maybe the Phillies will trade for him so they can put Cole Hamels in the bullpen too.

I think he ends up leaving via FA though |

Re: Baseball\'s Top 50 MVPs
don't want to hijack, but does anyone know where I might find similar lists for the other major sports?
