Did anyone see the new movie Lucky You?
I didn't see a movie section so I'll post this here.
On Ebert and Roeper, Richard Roeper (he loves and plays poker) said that the poker playing scenes in the new movie Lucky You were authentic and gave it a Thumbs Up. Do you agree? I was thinking of going to see it this week, even though it's been delayed for 2 years. |

I may be wrong ,but obviously it DWARFED in comparison to the SpiderMan realease which I believe was in excess of 100mm+........wow! Anyway, what should I expect from the movie,as I thought ROUNDERS was a great movie way before its time/place in 1997 with regard to the NLHE pokerboom! Is it on the same calibur? ~stephen |

Is it on the same calibur? ~stephen [/ QUOTE ] I also caught a rumor that it was expected to lose around $40 million overall but not sure how that number was crunched. As for comparison to Rounders, there is absolutely no comparison other than the fact that poker is played. In Lucky You, the audience is expected to be intrigued by both the life of a professional poker player as well as the developing love between Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana. In my opinion it failed at both. Drew and Eric's love affair just wasn't that believable in my opinion, definitely no sparks or screen magic. As for the poker itself, while it was fun to see the close-ups of all the pros and listen to some of them do lines (Farha actually had a few), most of it was pretty laugh-able. From the table talk to the actual hands to the unethical behavior in the tournaments, most of it was way too hollywood to be believable. Of course, most on this board are pretty serious about their poker and that makes for a tough audience. I'm not sure what the average Joe Home Poker Player would think about those scenes. All in all, I didn't think the movie was a complete waste of time, but I'd likely recommend you wait for the DVD. |
