Diane Warren [/ QUOTE ] This came to mind for me. She doesn't perform her songs (I don't think) and yet she has a ton of hits. |

I'm not really too conscious of female songwriters that I really like. Which is a bit odd, because I generally love female vocalists.

Joni Mitchell usually shows up near the top of this list. Carly Simon certainly deserves to be on the list somewhere.

[ QUOTE ] Carole King [/ QUOTE ] this is possibly the only correct answer. the amount of hits that she wrote is insane [/ QUOTE ] Must be the correct answer. Only other one I can think of is Cynthia Weill. Actually I can't believe how few of my favorite albums are by female artists. I kind of like some stuff by Pj Harvey. Same goes for Cat Power/Chan Marshall. I hate Björk. Madonna is ok at times. So is Joni Mitchell. Tracy Chapman's debut was great but that was it for her. Gillian Welch is someone who is definitely a personal favorite of mine. Joanna Newsom who so many adore at the moment, should be shot. |
