shooting neighbor\'s cats in my backyard
Sorry to disappoint but the cat shooting hasn't started yet.
Here's my dilemma. I just moved into a house with a backyard where I've started a couple of flowerbed and a small vegetable garden. One of the neighbors' cats is coming over and crapping in my gardens constantly. I don't know who the cats belong to but both of the offending felines have collars so I know they are pets and not strays. Having to deal with these cats wormy [censored] where I'm growing food is seriously pissing me off. So how do I put a stop to this in a humane fashion? My first inclination is to get a paintball gun or maybe an airsoft gun instead of a pellet or BB gun. I don't want to injure the cats because it's not their faults they belong to irresponsible pet owners. Yeah I know paintballs and airsoft guns can cause eye injuries but once the firing starts, the cats will be scrambling for the fence instead of staring at me so I think the risk is minimal. The farthest I'll have to shoot is 15-20 yards. Can airsoft guns shoot that far? Right now I'm partial to the paintball idea because the cats coming home splattered with paint will hopefully clue the owners in on the fact that letting their pets roam around loose is potentially dangerous. Any advice? Are there any alternatives to dealing with this situation that I'm missing? |

Swap their normal collars with shock collars.

Re: shooting neighbor\'s cats in my backyard
Airsoft can definitely do 15 yards with reasonable accuracy, but cats are small and fast and if you shoot one in the eye and discover it's owner is an ex-Green Beret with a drug problem he'll burn your house down.
A vastly more humane, safe, and cheap method would be to buy a squirt gun and shoot them with water. Do you have a garden hose, that would be even better. |

I think a paintball gun from 30 feet is going to do as much harm as a bb gun. I say just poison them, or speak to their owners/bring them to the pound.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes I have a garden hose, but these cats are very skittish, even more skittish than many strays I've encountered. They head to the opposite side of the yard quick when I come outside. I don't think a hose is going to even touch them. [ QUOTE ] You can probably still kill a cat with a paint ball gun. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I think a paintball gun from 30 feet is going to do as much harm as a bb gun. [/ QUOTE ] I've been hit square in the forehead by a paintball and it didn't break skin, only stung like hell and keep in mind that cats have fur to lessen the impact some. I know BB guns can break skin so I think the danger of paintball on cat violence is being overestimated here. [ QUOTE ] Before you go shooting any cats let me e-mail my sister who is a veternarian and get her input. I'm sure she knows of something. [/ QUOTE ] Will do. |

Super Soaker FTW
Won't hurt the cats but they'll hate it. |

Re: shooting neighbor\'s cats in my backyard
Probably no chance of getting the owners to do anything. Plant some catnip in a part of your yard (or in your neighbor's right on the edge) where it's "okay" for them to crap. You'll make the cats happy, and they won't be crapping in your garden. And when they occasionally head back over to unwelcome areas, super soaker em. Definitely no other kind of gun.

Im thinking more that a paintball gun at closish range could break a rib, or something. Ever been shot in the finger by a paintball gun, its a lot different.

[/ QUOTE ] Cats are small and squishy, mainly vital organs exposed in the soft belly area. Cats and dogs have died from internal bleeding after physical abuse, like say being kicked...They have tiny heads and big eyes. The chances of something pretty nasty happening if you were to go that route, are pretty good. No need to get upset and defensive, I assumed I was just stating the obvious. Well said guids. |
