He's already got 12 in the 4th Q and 45 for the game. The guy is ridiculous.
Beat: I'm not really an NBA fan (but I can appreciate sports greatness). Variance: When will people start seriously considering that he is better than Jordan? |

You make some pretty good points, OP (although Larry Hughes and Ray Allen do not help you, since neither of them are considered very good defenders). I actually didn't do any research into who covered Jordan during his heyday. Just a few points in favor of Jordan/against Kobe:
1. The talent of the league has been diluted by adding extra teams. Maybe Kobe plays against better individuals but Jordan had to play against good TEAMS (yes those Sonices teams sucked but look at the good teams these days, just a few really, whereas the 90s had the waning great Celtics, the Knicks, the bad boy Pistons, some dangerous Lakers teams, etc.) The East now is a total joke, no way you can argue that it is better than when Jordan was in the league. 2. The new rules have actually HELPED scorers, not hurt them. The league is purposely trying to increase scoring. 3. Kobe's team is not as awful as everyone makes it out to be. Yes he carries them but Lamar Odom is HUGELY underrated and Walton is pretty good, too. Kwame seems to be getting better and...okay I really don't know who else they have to be honest. But let me just say that Jordan would have strangled Smush Parker at this point due to his competitive spirit...Kobe just doesn't come off the same way. 4. When Jordan took that final shot, you KNEW it was going in. Kobe not so much, Arenas is much scarier than him in the final seconds. |
