CS rant
Today I spent almost six hours dealing with Comcast CS. Things are still not functioning. Its a sordid tale of repeating myself, idiot rep mistakes, and one tragic circumstance of false hope: an actual living, breathing person was on his way, called to make sure I was home, and just then things all started working perfectly; he left, having no need to come, and everything broke again, and on calling back immediately, nobody is available until Saturday at 8AM.
Today has been one of the most infuriating experiences of my life. I'm astounded at the unique blend of bureaucracy and dullards that makes up the call centers for major corporations. I started my calls at about 11AM, and the first person I talked to left me logged into some account, which prevented any further action by other reps. By about 3PM, I talked to someone who seemed bright and gave me hope. She listened to my sad story, put me on hold for about 15 minutes, and then came back to express dismay that she was unable to help - turns out someone was still logged in to my account, must not have heard the central theme of my conversation! - and offered the helpful advice that maybe I should call back later. I could have choke slammed her into her desk. So, what are your worst customer service experiences? Any bright spots out there? |

My girlfriend bought a dishwasher from Sears. It broke within about 6 weeks. She called Sears to get it serviced, on a Saturday so she wouldn't miss work. On that Saturday, they no showed, without calling to say they would no-show. After some griping, we reschedule the appointment, and then run into a very charming feature of the rescheduling system. Since she was rescheduling, she was lowest on the priority list for the next two times we tried to get this scheduled, and got bumped both of those times as well. Sears wouldn't give us the number for the local dispatcher to call and see what was up on the days in question, either.
After a long time, and a failed repair (or maybe two) (EDIT: I agreed to go out and stay at her place on a workday to facilitate this, being a grad student and all. The repair guy himself was actually pretty cool. But it seemed like there was something fundamentally wrong, like the mount for the motor was warped or something.), she finally found the One Number to Rule Them All. She called it, a human being answered near-instantaneously, listened to the story , and said "Yep, why don't we just give you a new dishwasher." Since then it's worked pretty well, but it has thoroughly killed her desire to ever buy from them again. |
