Default I\'m having difficulty gaining weight...

I'm 18 years old and weigh 113 pounds. I've been trying to gain weight for the past couple of months now and nothing seems to work. So my question is, what are some ways to make the weight gain easier? How many calories should I eat per day? What types of weight lifting should I do?

Thanks for any advice.

Do you have a log of foods you eat?
www.fitday.com

How much do you currently consume?

What is your macro breakdown (carbs, protein, fats)?

What types of weight lifting do you have experience with?

Do you know proper form on squats, deadlifts, bench, etc?

A little more detail would help us give a better answer.

I've always had trouble gaining weight too. This past week I started taking protein, just eating alot, hit the gym a few times and I've already gained 10 lbs (small sample size?). Like Thremp said, just eat more.

Goose,

Probably water weight, etc. Maybe just have more food in you. Basically this is like the gov't solution to education except it actually works. Just throw more food at it.

Try mass gainer drinks. Add 300-1000 calories to your diet.

People who say eat more, not every one has the time to prepare 6 quality meals a day. Mass gainer drinks are invalueble to those who are short of time.

I have had trouble gaining weight in the past two. The two biggest pieces of advice I can give you is 1) You have to consistently eat more. I'm talking at least 2500 calories a day but try for 3000 and you should be on your way. A lot of people eat like 3500 one day and then 2000 the next day. This won't cut it. 2) Start working out. Deadlifting is the best mass building exercise you can do. A lot of people forget about their lower body when they start working out. This will greatly impede your ability to gain weight. Your legs have to get bigger for the rest of your body to also get bigger (something to do with genetics or something). Timing meals in relation to your workouts is also very important. There is a lot of information about what kind of foods to eat and when on Bodybuilding.com. Don't forget to take everything from that site with a grain of salt. And two months is not very long. Try the above for like a year and you should definitely see some results. If you are committed you shouldnt have a problem.

1. Weightgainers are probably a waste of money.
2. Weightgainers are worthless.

I concur. Nothing "magical" about weight gainers. Like the majority of supplements, if you have the money go for it. Calories can be taken in with regular food at a cheaper price. It's all about your budget and whether or not you need the "ease" of a quick calorie loaded bomb.

~3k calories, 320g protein, 275g carb, 60-90g fat is my daily goal for just maintenance (190 lbs)

7:30a.m.: 1/2 scoop whey protein, before a cardio session
8 a.m.: 4 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, slice of cheese, 1 cup oatmeal
10:30 a.m.: 2 scoops why protein mixed w/ water, 1 baked sweet potato, 1ish oz mixed nuts
12-1 p.m.: 8 oz chicken breast, 1 cup brocolli, 1 sweet potato
4 p.m.: can of tuna on 2 slices wheat bread (no mayo), 1/2 avacado
5:30 pm (preworkout): 1 scoop whey protein w/ water, piece of fruit
7ish (postworkout): 2 scoops whey protein w/ water, large gatorade (for carbs, essential post workout)
8ish (dinner): 8 oz salmon, 1 cup brown rice, garden salad w/ extra virin olive oil and vinegar
10 pm: 8 oz lowfat cottage cheese (w/ 2 tbsp milled flax seed)

obviously not the same thing every day, substitute chicken for salmon, turkey, steak, etc and substitute different veggies in and out. just my basic guideline, works for me.

If you can consistently stick to that diet, it's pretty good.
