Money Saving Tip - Googling Coupon/Promo Codes
This is probably a LDO situation, but I just want to help out all the Googly Challenged out there. Whenever you are on a site ordering something and there's a section for coupon or promo codes, Google for one! I just ordered a CafePress T-Shirt, and saved $5 with 10 seconds worth of work. Basically my shipping was now free.
Other recent occasions I've saved by doing something so simple: - TurboTax Online - I forget how much, but I saved a few bucks when I did my taxes. - GoDaddy.com - I registered about a dozen sites recently and saved something like 10%. There's more I can't think of right now. Anybody else have some stories of recent purchases that you saved some dough through a quick Google for a code? |

I always get reminded about their coupons when I use Google Maps, but then I never think to check for a coupon before I purchase anything. Thanks for reminding me that I waste money.

Re: Money Saving Tip - Googling Coupon/Promo Codes
I forgot to add that there will be a few times where a code doesn't work, but luckily the sites do nothing to stop you from trying everyone you can find until you get one.
Oh yeah, another big one is Dell. I've saved a ton with coupon codes there, but I usually keep my eye on a coupon code site (gotapex.com is my usual for Dell stuff) for an appropriate coupon code to come along before I make a purchase. That site has saved me hundreds on stuff I was going to buy from Dell anyway. |

Another good place to find coupons and get cash back is http://www.extrabux.com
Definitely worth a few minutes time, espcecially with things like dell. With everyone living and dieing by rakeback, its surprising more people don't utilize these type of sites. free money. |

[/ QUOTE ] Exactly, each of us researches (or at least should) the best rakeback deal before joining any site. Why not carry that attitude to everyday purchases? It's like being paid to Google. Once you've narrowed down what you are buying and where you are buying it from, it's not a bad idea to see if you can find an additional discount. One minute of your life researching can save you $5 or it can save you hundreds. |

Re: Money Saving Tip - Googling Coupon/Promo Codes
Yeah, I always do this. Just type "xyz coupon code" in Google and you get a list of 100 sites with codes. Also, I always buy coupons from eBay for a buck or two that end up saving me much more (Circuity City $40 off $199, stuff like that).

Re: Money Saving Tip - Googling Coupon/Promo Codes
Another thing I thought I'd share:
I'm now under the impression that you shouldn't sign up for -any- kind of service without getting some kind of kickback from an affiliate. Examples: - Cable/Internet Service: Got $150 cash back and a free cable modem by signing up through someone else - Web hosting: plenty of $100 referral bonuses for signing people up - poker sites: rakeback - other big purchases (loans, insurance, etc). |
