Ok so the way I see it I can either make it $9 to play or just flat call. What would u do in this situation? I'm thinking the villain could be making a standard continuation bet with 2 high cards and a raise could get him to fold or he could be holding a higher pocket pair than me, in which case I am in trouble. Villain is fairly steady player, hasn't done anything too crazy as yet - 23/1.2/1.4 over approx 100 hands. Whats my move? |

I'd probably call and see what he does on the turn. With stats like those his UTG raising range isn't very large and if he has AK, AQ he'll probably shut down. If he fires again, I'd most likely fold if I don't improve.

Re: NL25 - 88 overpair to board...what next?
That's certainly an option to consider. However, if at least one of his opponent's overcards (assuming the opponent has overcards, of course) is higher than an 8, he wants to make it as expensive as possible to draw at the overcard.
Furthermore, raising offers the possibility of winning the pot immediately, which is good, because the pocket 8's aren't what one would call a monster hand. |

Re: NL25 - 88 overpair to board...what next?
There are much more card combinations that make the overcards than there are that make the higher pocket pair. Therefore, I would certainly raise in this spot in order to take the pot right here. I would raise to about $9.
