vBulletin?
vBulletin seems like it would do the job. I don't know what kind of traffic it can handle, but feature-wise it kicks butt. It isn't free, but it is cheap. $160 I believe.
vBulletin has the ability to import UBB.threads message boards, so switching shouldn't be too difficult. Can we try it out on the archiveserver like we did with the new UBB? -- Kevin |

This is under discussion at the moment. Anyone with any other suggestions is certainly welcome to add them.

[/ QUOTE ] Another option that scales pretty well is Jive Forums(https://www.jivesoftware.com). We used this at Walt Disney Internet Group (when I worked there last year) for all of their forums (ABC/ABCNews/ESPN/etc.) It is Java application based rather than PHP based with the ability to scale across multiple application servers. A very viable solution if performace and scalability is a major issue. |

Re: vBulletin?
Seriously. Go to http://www.big-boards.com/ . Have a look at what the biggest boards on the Internet are using. UBB is nowhere in sight.
I'm curious as to what problems we'll see if we switch boards. phpBB and vBulletin are very configurable from what I understand. |

Re: vBulletin?
any compitent forum owner will tell you Vbulletin, if not a custom forum, is the standard for large forums.
check out what these huge sites use: http://www.big-boards.com/ I would suggest getting in touch w/ them and getting their input on how things are running in relation to the software. |

[/ QUOTE ] I suggested they switch to vB about a year ago, if not longer. Thankfully it looks like this failed upgrade will finally force them to convert. Just, for the love of god, do NOT convert to phpBB. That thing is a breeding ground of security holes. |
