Warren Zevon actually got a fair bit of critical acclaim. He just never sold a ton of records after about 1980 or so. The same could be said for Graham Parker, pretty much.

Anyhoo, we used to cover "Lawyers, Guns and Money" all the time when I was playing in Jealous Lover Targets. That song is pure brilliance.

How bout a new thread on Artists known mainly for one song to the masses...but have others that are much better....two examples are Zevon being known for "Werewolves" but LG & $ is much better and Harry Chapin being known for "Cats in the Cradle" while "Taxi" IMHO is a better song.

My favorite Zevon songs are "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" and "I Was in the House When the House Burned Down." LG&$ is great too.

ELTSDIM was a pretty big hit. If you want to go with great, lesser known Police songs, I would say King of Pain, Spirits in the Material World, So Lonely, Walking in Your Footsteps, etc

I really never liked EBYT all that much, so I can go with just about any of those songs. Hell, I liked every song on Synchronicity better than EBYT except for Mother.

It's just always been a disappointment to me that the Police's signature song is a three-chord pop number when so many of their other songs were so wonderfully complex.
