2/4 B&M - min suited connecters to raise from BB with lottsa players
2/4 B&M, 10 players, loose and passive
The other day I'm in BB with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]; there are 7 callers plus the SB completes. I raise. Bad? What's the minimum no-gap and one-gap suited connecters that we should be raising from the BB with lottsa players in the pot? Should we simply check in most cases or perhaps only raise suited connecters > Ten? My thoughts were I'd be the one chasing so might as well make a big pot that gives me the odds to do so, plus it's an easy hand to get away from if I miss the flop, plus if I show it down it'll widen my preflop raising range for those who are paying attention making it more difficult to put me on a hand. If you cap 42o in the BB so you can chase your wheel draws you have made a mistake. However I am not averse to raising. I definatly raise JTs and up in this situation. Loose and passive is a nice table for your suited connectors. I haven't run any equity calculations though. |

Re: 2/4 B&M - min suited connecters to raise from BB with lottsa players
I would be more likely to raise in position than out, since I can take free cards if I like.
I don't like this at all, and would probably only limp in position because I'm a nit. |

What would be the minimum suited connecters to raise even being OOP in BB? Is 98s borderline and could be played either way without much difference?

You know, in a 2-4 live game, I don't think I am going to get this clever. I don't need to tie these players to a pot. It's all about value, and I think that from your perspective, the value of your hand will be a lot better defined after the flop.

Borderline play - probably neutral EV. Maybe it's better in 4/8 where some players (nits) are paying attention to who raised preflop with what cards.

Re: 2/4 B&M - min suited connecters to raise from BB with lottsa players
you need about 11% equity to do this profitably and i think you have around 12.5-13% so you aren't losing money. it will increase variance, though(given that you have correct odds to chase many weak draws).
fwiw, i autoraise JTs in this spot. online, my cutoff from the blinds is usually 9Ts(pair value being the determining factor for me deciding the cutoff). honestly, in the loosepassive games you describe, it's fine and often preferable to not raise these hands. not raising decreases variance, helps protect susceptible/weak hands postflop, and increases the mistakes your opponents make which means more money for you. BUT, raising is fun! |

As others have said, this:
[ QUOTE ] My thoughts were I'd be the one chasing so might as well make a big pot that gives me the odds to do so [/ QUOTE ] is not why you raise. b |
