Barney Frank to \"attack UIGEA starting around April 18th\"
According to this little article the great Barney Frank is going to start formally attacking the UIGEA starting arouund April 18th. The article says Frank is going to move beyond rhetoric and "move swiftly" against the "stupid" provisons of the UIGEA

I know I am going to make a contribution to his campaign fund.) |

Edited [/ QUOTE ] Would you say that if our biggest defender in Congress was a heterosexual woman? Why do you think that is funny? Seriously, can we leave any irrelevant gay comments out of Barney Frank discussions on this forum? He's our best ally and should be treated with respect. |

[ QUOTE ]
A poker carve out from UIGEA as a clean separate bill looks as if it is dead as a door nail, but a bigger and more forceful bill is on a well lit horizon; leave it to Congressman Frank to keep it narrow enough to stay tightly within the reins of his committee. [/ QUOTE ] Any speculation as to what the nature of a bill suitable for the Financial Services Committee might be like, and how useful it might be in saving teh pokah? |

Re: Barney Frank to \"attack UIGEA starting around April 18th\"
God, I hope this is for real! Even if he doesn't get the law completely repealed, which we all should realize will be very, very difficult, this will at least give the public at large a different perspective from Washington, and give us a very big voice.
The one thing I find unfortunate, however, is that the very people who's minds really to be opened up over this whole issue (the bible-toting, conservative, southern types) are probably just going to chalk this up as more immorality being spewed from an immoral person, and that sucks. Oh well, I guess some rubes will never get it |

Re: Barney Frank to \"attack UIGEA starting around April 18th\"
Some rubes will never get it, its true. But the majority of folks in the US dont agree that online poker should be illegal. Of course, the majority also aint riled up much one way or the other either. But that is where a vocal minority can make a difference.
And one thing even his critics conceed, Barney Frank is a very smart guy. I suspect the bill coming out of the FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE will largely help us by really helping FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS from the costly and futile private enforcement provisions of the UIGEA. Since there is no federal law against poker, every bank is required to be aware of each individual state law and state residence of the customer in order to know which are illegal and which are legal transactions. This is too much for the already overburdened small banking industry, and costly to the big banks and ultimately the consumer too. At the very least then lets ease the burden on these FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS and exempt online poker and its confusing mishmosh of laws from the UIGEA regulations. Thank you. I am optimistic here. Skallagrim |
