Has anyone had the problem of shifting their mentality when trying to move from full to short handed poker? I cant seem to do it, even when dropping down limits and it drives me crazy! Either I seem to play as usual, be too patient and find the blinds eating me away, or I play too aggressivly and throw chips around without much success. I also find it harder to put people of any sort of hand in shorthanded poker. Pehaps unusually, I consider myself good at full ring cash games, and heads up tournies. Even sng short handed games im ok, but its the cash games I cant seem to master
Any ideas? |

6 max is the same as FR when the first 3 players fold. Surely you have encountered this situation as a veteran full ring player.

I am having the same problem. It is very different to full ring because most full ring players (even alot of winning players) play way too few hands in position and are also too passive preflop. I made a living from $200NL full ring for a year with stats along the lines of 13/3. I am not convinced that style would ever beat 6max.
Basically you have to learn to play poker! There is no other way around it. Simply folding every marginal hand and waiting for the nuts isn't going to beat an average 6max game. On the plus side you don't need to make as many big laydowns either. I have found there is no substitue for experience. |
