Final table of 45-man SNG. Push/fold spot with 43o. Geeeeyah.
Top 6 pay, and 1st place pays ~8x more than 6th does....
BB is a somewhat-smart LAG running about 35/15. I don't usually post push/fold hands, but I can't seem to get this hand out of my head.... any thoughts? 250/500 - No Limit Hold'em - 0:17:49 ET - 2007/03/21 Seat 2: thricer (9,530) Seat 3: View Source (3,430) Seat 4: nando31 (14,685) Seat 5: octaveshift (3,440) Seat 7: 12toes (18,345) Seat 8: jeremymckissick (8,290) Seat 9: djdtucktape (9,780) octaveshift posts the small blind of 250 12toes posts the big blind of 500 The button is in seat #4 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to octaveshift [4s 3d] jeremymckissick folds djdtucktape folds thricer folds View Source folds nando31 folds octaveshift has 15 seconds left to act octaveshift raises to 3,440, and is all in |

IDC if blinds are 500/1000, BB is not folding ever here, and 43 can only beat 1 thing in most cases, and you know what the odds of him holding that is, haha

I let that one go. You'll have 5 shots to push before you are back in a blind and every one of them will be better than your 43. And there's not a huge chance you'll push the BB out of the hand IMO.

if he had a smaller stack and would be crippled i usually push here. With his stack i would fold here and wait for better spots

OK, so let's boil it down to 2 questions:
1. What's your shove range vs. the BB in this spot? 2. What does BB's stack need to be for you shove 43o? (I know this can all be solved mathematically, but I am bad with numbers and also at work.... ) |

1) QTo or better, you've got some chips left I want a semi-quality hand
2) BB would have to be his all in. I really don't like this spot at all |

BB should be one of the moderate/avg stacks for you to shove this, BUT EVEN THEN @ 250/500, with 3400 left you need to consider what the other stacks are too, in this case 2 people have about 2x as you and 1 other guy is short as you. EVEN THEN, I will NEVER shove 34 in this spot even if I only have 1500 left, 43 just cant beat anything really, even if you know you need to get lucky, you need to get really lucky. |

Re: Final table of 45-man SNG. Push/fold spot with 43o. Geeeeyah.
There is some published material on this.
With 7 BB's and action folded to your SB, you are simply leaving money on the table if you fold any above average hand. Even if the BB could see your cards and played perfectly you have +cEV for pushing probably 2/3 to 3/4 of the deck. Add to that the possibility of the BB folding some hands that are ahead and you really should not be folding 9x or better IMO. Unless the BB is particularly tight in this spot, 43o is almost never an auto-shove (you'd need to be down to 2 BB's or so). If you are hovering around the 4-5 BB area you may be able to take advantage of some bad folds by him however. |
