Default common situation

live game, you just got back from a piss and a walk and you post a big blind + small blind in the cutoff ready for some action.

utg+1 seems like a decent aggro player from your history with him and he may perceives you as ditto.

he raises. folds to u in the cutoff with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. fishy guy calls on the button. blinds fold. 3 way action.

flop: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

he bets. you call. button folds.

turn: 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

he checks. word?

I check here a lot. Qxy flop, hard to get paid by many hands here, you can never fold if he checkraises or anything. He'll pay you on the river with like anything, he might have just been giving up and then the 5th diamond will hit sometimes and you'll now get called for sure. Lots of merit to checking I think.

I thought about this hand a bit since I responded and agree that checking is the right play. Man, I'm posting like $hit in here, at least I'm playing better than I'm posting.

I put myself in the line of fire and sure enough, I check.

Against a good player I actually like checking behind on the turn. There isn't much he'll call with that you beat, but if you check behind you might either induce a bluff or have him look you up without a flush after a river bet. Against a player who is more prone to pay off, however, I would bet this on the turn.

Just my opinion...

I'd 3-bet preflop for sure. Definitely checking the turn against most. Occassionally I'll bet if I've been particularly out of line that session or if that particular player is a little tilty at me.

Wow am I playing too passively if I'm not 3betting KJo here ? How many people at the table ? That's a suprising line for me.

You've posted both blinds, so UTG+1's range has opened up a bit with extra dead money in the pot. Your hand is too good to fold for one more bet, you're in position, good things happen when you put in the last raise preflop, and one more bet doesn't cost you much even if you're slightly behind his range, and you'd rather play the hand HU. I think there's a pretty good argument for 3-betting anything you want to play here if you think there's a good chance of isolating.

Its situation dependent. This is why:
