Default actor/actress with short/wide ranges

Short Ranges

Al Pacino
Robert Deniro
Denzel Washington
Morgan Freeman
Greg Kineer
Matt Damon
Will Smith

Wide Ranges

John Malcovich
Ed Norton
Brad Pitt
Johny Depp
Ben Kingsley
Leonardo Dicaprio - Getting sicker w/ every movie.

Im not nessecarily saying short range guys are bad, and that wide ranges guys are good, simply that short range guys keep playing the same characters with the same facial expressions, ticks and speech patterns, etc over and over again. If you took different snipets of dialogue from various films of the short range guys and put them together, you'd think it was the same movie!

Perhaps Deniro deserves a pass because he is so great at what he does!

Also, Ive been meaning to put this somewhere, so Ill just put it here: Tommy Lee Jones sucks at acting, period.

What are you serious?

I'll add a little...

DeNiro played Vito Corleone, Travis Bickle, and Jack LaMotta.

Scarlett Johanssen always plays the same character: a woman I'd really like to [censored].

From The Panic in Needle Park to Insomnia, with a pit stop at The Godfather, Al Pacino doesn't deserve to be in the short range category.

Denzel also has a huge range. Your short list is terrible.

i actually agree with him being ont he short list. every movie i've seen him in, he plays the same character. i also think he overacts almost every role. he brings absolutely no subtlety.

It's not so much that Pachino was always narrow-range...it's that he's really become so in the last 15-20 years. Every role he plays now is some variation on Michael Corleone. Even Tony Montana fits in that category. He's become a one trick pony.

short range: Ben Stiller- either plays a really normal guy that gets caught up in awkward moments,(a night at the museum, meet the parents, along came polly. or a really wierd unusal character: zoolander, dodgeball, mystery men.
