$10 (180) AK facing UTG raise
OK, so I really would like some advice and input on how people would play this hand. Villian is solid, but has been active for last couple orbits. I would like to know how people would play this. Do you flatcall, see a flop? Do you reraise? Push?
I should mention that this is post-bubble and we have a flat payout for the next 9 players, does this factor into your decision? I will post results after some replies, PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t800 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) BB (t36381) UTG :#A500AF(villain)/ (t22448) Hero (t13655) MP1 (t4431) MP2 (t24738) MP3 (t28522) CO (t9021) Button (t9892) SB (t13834) Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG :#A500AF(villain)/ raises to t2350, Hero ??? |

Re: $10 (180) AK facing UTG raise
With ~16 BBs, I push this without much thought. Reasonable range includes AJ+, KQ, 88+ or so, a decent part of which he folds (say AJ, AQ, KQ, 88-TT or so).

Re: $10 (180) AK facing UTG raise
Why is everyone so in favor of pushing here? Why not call and see what the flop brings, being that you also have position on the raiser. Also if someone re-raise you behind you could then push. WHat if the raiser has a pair then your going to have to race for your chips. Seeing a flop allows you not to race for all your chips against middle pairs.

Re: $10 (180) AK facing UTG raise
OK, I also don't like flatcall. I whiff 2/3 flops anyhow and will have to fold to a cbet from villian, regardless of if I'm ahead or not (i.e he cbets with AQ or value bets AA).
Also, I am not happy to see a push behind me, I really want to avoid being squeezed out (if villian calls the push) Is anyone here willing to reraise villian and push any flop (assuming he checks to you)? Villian would be getting better than 2 to 1 odds on the flop-push, but is this a reasonable line? I know a push is likely correct, but I really feel that a push here would define my hand to villian, which will force him to play more correctly by calling me with most pairs and folding all unpaired hands except AK. This type of push seems to scream AK. Any thoughts?? |

Re: $10 (180) AK facing UTG raise
After the advice I've been given on here today, I'd push. You really want to play your good hands strongly at this stage of the tournament, in order to make the top 3, where the money becomes significant.

Re: $10 (180) AK facing UTG raise
I think I wouldn't push becuz i would:
Call, you have 2 desperate players behind you, CO and SB, so if you call (and others fold) they will probably try to take the pot and raise all-in. Then one of them has accidentley made a sqeeuze play. So when de villian is playing the hand you'll get the pot-odds anyway but you've given the villian a chance to fold. (this only works on a tight table, on a loose table I would raise all-in also) (Criticism more than welcome) |
