UIGEA \"Virus\" Spreading Like Plague Worldwide
It is looking more and more like the UIGEA has done more than screw the American poker world. It seems to be spreading and mutating into various forms all around the world:
--Canada has stated that it may follow the USA with similar legislation of internet gambling. --China, which has potential for massive online poker growth, has stated that they will severly regulate online gambling. They have gone so far as to say they consider it a scourge. --France looks like it is following us with severe legislative restrictions to such a degree that today Party Poker announced it is pulling out of France. --According to gambling 911.com the climate in Scandinavia and the Netherlands is not good right now for online poker. So it is starting to look like the UIGEA--or perhaps I should say the UIGEA mentality-- is "morphing itself" and spreading all over the world in a variety of different forms. |

ANY basis or source for that statement in your post ? .... Not that "Canada" says anything in a single voice. |

Well, he does have the paragraph thing down, but he is back to "fire and brimstone rain down upon you."
Sweden has its own online poker site. No one has tried to stop my Danish friends from online play. The Netherlands has been cracking down on unauthorized B&M play, but has said nothing about the internet. Adanthar has covered France. Canada has not done anything. So about the only thing correct here is that China, that last great bastion of freedom, may also limit onine gambling. Sorry Gaboon, you are going to have to do better than this to scare me . Skallagrim |

The Netherlands has been cracking down on unauthorized B&M play, but has said nothing about the internet. Skallagrim [/ QUOTE ] Sure they have. The (former) Minister of Justice has claimed that online gambling is illegal, but that that problem is too difficult to tackle. Further he has looked into ways of having ISPs block Gambling content, and has sent a letter to the dutch branches of creditcard companies claiming that transactions to and from internet gambling companies are illegal. Also there are new tax laws on gambling winnings coming up, and there will be an online gambling casino/pokersite run by Holland Casino, the state casino. Yay monopoliaments. Luckily a new government has been formed in the past few months, so that the anti online gambling measures have been stopped for a while. However, it has yet to be seen how the new policy towards online gambling will be. Things are NOT looking very bright for online gambling in the Netherlands, and from what I understand not in France either. I am afraid I may have to play B&M poker for a living or look for a job in the not so distant future. |

Skallagrim [/ QUOTE ] A week ago the former head of Finnish betting company - that has monopoly in here - said based on a report of high political level forum that online poker should be restricted or banned in Finland. We have an election here in couple of weeks and it remains to be seen if online poker will still be legal in the future. They say that it is addictive and thus should be restricted, but in reality they probably are worried that it takes money away from the companies that have the monopoly in slots, betting and horse racing to companies in tax havens. One of the arguments in here are the events in US. |

I have discussed that directly with Firepay. There was nothing behind it.
