open .gif with Windows Picture and Fax viewer
When I receive a picture in the .jpg format in an email, it opens in the default program of Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. When it is in .gif format, somehow the default got changed to internet explorer.
I want .gif to open with Picture Viewer. I know how to change the program it opens with, but cannot find where Picture Viewer is located. Any help to where it is? I use XP, firefox, and yahoo mail. Thanks for your help. |

Re: open .gif with Windows Picture and Fax viewer
I dont beleive there is an exectuable path, i think the program is called up by a .dll file, SO...
Right click a local .gif image( an image on your system) and choose "open with". If you dont get that option, press and hold the shift key then right click. Click "choose program" at the bottom of the dialog box. Scroll until you find MS Picture viewer and highlight/click it. Checkmark the box that says "always use the selected program to open this type of file". Click "OK" That will associate MS picture viewer with any .gif you open. |

Re: open .gif with Windows Picture and Fax viewer
Thanks for the reply.
That lets me open up a .gif that I have saved with the right program, but when I go to open up one that is an attachment to an email, it still wants to open it with IE. Here's a screenshot of what I'm getting, in case my descriptions doesn't make sense. If the attachment was a .jpg, it works fine, it's just the case with .gif |

Re: open .gif with Windows Picture and Fax viewer
In the pop up box that you show, I.E is highlighted...try choosing "OTHER" and doing the same thing, find and choose MS picture viewer...
What descriptions of yours "dont make sense"? Where are you seeing those? |
