First glance I got to say under on the Cubs at 85.5.

Zambrano will show his ass because he did't get a contract.

Soriano will hit 75% solo HR's and his RISP numbers are pathetic. He isn't a team player and will likely clash with Pinella.

Jason Marquis? He sucks. Megamillions for a lifetime 4.50+ ERA guy who ballooned to 6.02 last year?

Ted Lilly? Who the hell signed off on this one? Another 4.60+ lifetime ERA who will never make 200IP. And look at those FB/GB ratios. 144HR in 935 IP. Yeah, that is just the pitcher you want in Wrigley. Nice work.

Wood and Prior. Likely done, but like big white elephants, you can't just get rid of them.

Dempster? He is the starting closer? Not even sure how this guy stays in the major leagues. 34year old Howry? Same problem as Lilly.

Derosa starting 2b? A castoff from Atlanta who had a career year last year in Texas. (if you can call it that) He sucks.

Izturis starting SS? He hasn't played in a year and wasn't that good even when he did play.

They only firepower they have is Soriano, Lee (IF his wrist has healed, no guarantee)and Ramirez (who may mail it in after receiving a nice bloated contract). Murton, Barrett and Jones are average at best. Maybe an fragile, aging Cliff Floyd is the answer. Yeah right.

These guys won 66 games last year. Are they really 20 games better this year after spending 300 million to bring in Marquis, Lilly, Soriano and DeRosa? Probably not.

And if all that weren't enough, well, they are the Cubs...

Gee where do I start debunking this clearly anti Cub biased post?

Claiming Zambrano will tank it in during a contract year is pretty damn ludricous. I have no idea on Soriano's career numbers and since you didn't list them I don't think you do either. Ted Lilly will be pitching in the NL for the first time--sometimes this improves the pitchers ERA and sometimes it's the other way around. Wrigley isn't as big of a hitters park as everyone thinks it is.

Dempster's probably best as a starter and the Cubs need a starter worse because the rest of the bullpen is fine...

Howry was great last season and oh what's this his career ERA is 3.5 you say--that's pretty good in any league isn't it? What's that? Last season it was 3.17? So you're saying the Cubs having a middle reliever way better than most other teams is a hinderance?

Izturis is there purely for defensive purposes. Obviously he sucks offensively and I hope the cubs aren't stupid enough to put him at the 2 spot.

Ramirez has always had a bloated contract.

Barrett last season .307 BA .368 OBP 16 HR's
What catcher averages these stats? How many catchers even beat 2 of these? I can't come up with more than a few possiblities off the top of my head. Definitely more than average teams in the ML would take these offensive stats and run wouldn't they? You could use his career numbers but he's definitely improved past those if you just watched him play you'd know the last season was closer to what he currently is rather than the career numbers.

As for the only firepower comment--there's a lot of teams in the NL that don't even have that. They definitely will be above average in firepower. The main problem will be getting people on base when that firepower happens.

The cubs were over .500 with Lee in the lineup--if he's healthy for a full season they've got a good shot at 85. All that criticism aside--I'd bet the under but again like everyone else will say--tying up $ for eight months sucks.

(That was pretty unnecessary but I hate haters who only know at best half of what they're talking about--I apologize to all who read that unnecessarily)

Cliff notes/actual picks (no bet though no account there)--Cubs under, Mets over, Milwaukee under, Minn over, leaning Balt under. Everything else seems like too much juice to even consider for me.

Phils over - added Garcia, Moyer, Eaton, Hamels 2nd year under his belt, + Myers and Lieber. Ryan Howard entering his 2nd full year. Improved at 3B, Rowand hopefully don't break his nose this year. Phils have gone from worst starting 5 to best - Madson and Floyd were starters last year, ugh.

Cubs under.

I need to get a sportsbook.com account and find a way to fund it. I keep missing all the SB props.
