Default 12 hour layover in Mexico City, what to do?

I fly in Thursday morning and fly out Thursday night on my way to Argentina. Just planning on taking the Metro downtown and dick around for a while. Can anybody recommend a good place to eat, or what to see in the short time I am down there.

Kidnapping the children of the rich is supposed to be popular around there. And profitable.

The problem with the airport is there really isn't any good places to eat. There's a couple snack type stands with pre-made sandwiches and [censored], but they aren't really that good. You might want to leave to find a place to eat, but other than that, you don't really have time to explore the city, especially considering the sections worth exploring aren't really close to the airport.

everyone is right that there are really no good places to eat in the airport. however, hotel camino real is connected to the airport via a walking bridge and while the food there is nothing to write home about, it's better than anything else you'll find at the airport. they also have an ok bar.

a VERY IMPORTANT thing to note when flying out of mexico city is that you must arrive for your flight very very early, especially if you need to check in. it is not at all uncommon to wait 1+ hours just to check in for the flight, and they will close the checkin 30 minutes before the flight and they will not care that you have been standing in line or that your other plane was delayed or whatever else.

last time I had a connection in mexico city we had a 3.5 hour layover and spent the whole time standing in line and almost missed the flight. if you do have to checkin for your connection, do it before you leave the airport to go whereever you are going.

12 hour instant message sex fest with a random child is the only option.
