NL50: Critique my reasoning
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)
BB ($52.20) UTG ($6.20) MP ($19.25) Hero ($83.05) SB ($72.05) Preflop: Hero is Button with 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 2 folds, Hero raises to $2, SB raises to $7.5, 1 fold, Hero calls $5.50. Flop: ($15.50) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks, Hero checks. Turn: ($15.50) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks, Hero checks. River: ($15.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) SB bets $11, Hero calls $11. Final Pot: $37.50 Villain wasn't especially aggro preflop, so I called thinking I could stack him if I hit a set. Flop comes lousy, but he checks. It's unlikely that he has AK, since I doubt anyone would slowplay in that spot, so I'm thinking he's probably donking it up with aces, slowplaying kings or queens, or maybe playing scared with jacks. On the turn I hit my boat, but I think this is a spot where it's better to induce a bet than bet yourself, so I check behind. He bets the river, and I call because I'm not going to get value out of raising. Thoughts? Folding preflop is an option, but from there the hand plays itself out, no? |

Re: NL50: Critique my reasoning
Jeez, I bet the turn.
I beat AA, AK, AQ, AJ, JJ, TT, 99. Lose to KK, QQ (one), and KQ. I think we're were way ahead of his range. And there's no way he's expecting 66, so a bet on the turn doesn't telegraph anything. Maybe I'm a donkey but there's no way I'm checking with a boat when AA is so often happy to give me his chips. |

Re: NL50: Critique my reasoning
To me, your river call says "i'm afraid he has KK or QQ, but I have to see"

Re: NL50: Critique my reasoning
If you'd been betting all along, calling the river would seem better. But it's been checked through twice, so you're both saying you don't have much of anything. A raise from you could look like you're trying to push him off a bluff (and you don't have much either)--I think worse hands often call.

Re: NL50: Critique my reasoning
I don't think it's so bad. The only hand you get value out of by raising is AQ if he'll even reraise with that hand.
