Requested a check from stars on Sunday night for about 3k. It arrived at my door this morning at about 9:00. Went to the bank at 9:30 to deposit.
The teller had a funny look on her face and after about 3 minutes of clicking on her computer screen, she said there would be a five day hold on the funds from this check. I become very worried and say "no problem" and leave. I have deposited a check from pokerstars before. There was no problem and no "hold." However, the last check was only for about $300. This one was for $3200. I will update in 5 days to tell everyone if I got the money. But I am worried for sure. |

Isn't this normal? For a check over a certain amount to have a waiting period?

[ QUOTE ]
Non-Local: Non-local checks are drawn on banks outside the check-processing region where the deposit is being made. These funds must be available to you by the morning of the fifth business day after the day of deposit. Beware--deposits of cash or checks made at ATMs not located at the bank with which they're affiliated can be held as long as non-local checks. I wouldn't panic just yet. I worked in the banking business for 5+ years and your experience sounds "routine". Most tellers freeze up whenever they see a check for over $1000. From what I hear Pokerstars checks are drawn on Bank of America so I would expect a hold of about 3 business days. When the teller was "clicking" she was probably going through some of your banking history to help determine whether or not your check was legit and if you routinely make similar deposits. Please keep us posted though.
