Default Race matters in House

"Black Caucus: Whites Not Allowed

By: Josephine Hearn
January 22, 2007 08:33 PM EST
Freshman Rep. Stephen I. Cohen, D-Tenn., is not joining the Congressional Black Caucus after several current and former members made it clear that a white lawmaker was not welcome.

"I think they're real happy I'm not going to join," said Cohen, who succeeded Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., in a majority-black Memphis district. "It's their caucus and they do things their way. You don't force your way in. You need to be invited.""

To see just how outrageous this is, switch black for white and white for black and imagine that. It would end political careers, no?

This is racism. No other way to describe it.

Yep surely is, when the underdog tries to redress decades of injustices. That should not be allowed. Jeez, at the end, it is like affirmative action, for heaven sake!

They excluded a new Representative from a majority black district because he was white, ignoring the need for better representation for blacks. This is nothing like AA. This is a racist club.

Do they let mixed race members join the black caucas? or is it a no mongrels allowed type of club? Do they need papers proving they are of "pure blood" to join?

Even i think this is pretty moronic. Its funny because the Black Caucus never cared for Harold Ford Jr. much anyways and his brother who ran against Cohen was even worse then him.

How can society ever move forward if all anyone ever brings up in a conversation is the "decades of injustices". They occured, they were horrible, but we need to move on.
