Default Music suggestions please...

I have not kept up with music over the last few years. I do not listen to much radio and when I do it's usually talk radio/sports. I have downloaded all of my favorites from the past but I am looking for something new for my tastes. I'll occasionally here a great song on a local college station, but they are always in blocks and no mention of the artists. Basically waaaaaaaaay out of the loop. I like acoustic w/ 2-4 part harmony type stuff (CSN&Y). But mostly mellow, ethereal, dreamy type music like "Into Dust"-Mazzy Star; "Song to the Siren"- This Mortal Coil; Indigo Girls(their first album mainly); of course Pink Floyd; Angelo Badalamenti- who does the music for all of Lynch's films; etc. I saw CallMeIshmael's thread in OOT and some suggestions were close but not really what I was looking for. His suggestions were:

1. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
2. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
3. Thom Yorke - Eraser
4. The Knife - Silent Shout
5. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Letting Go
6. Phoenix - It's Never Been Like That
7. Islands - Return to the Sea
8. Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon
9. Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
10. Destroyer - Destroyer's Rubies

Although Amazon did not offer samples for Tapes N Tapes so I still do not know there sound. Band of Horses "I Go To The Barn", Damien Rice's "Blowers Daughter", and Isaac's "Wicked Game" are also in line with my style.

Meh, I know I am being pretty vague so any suggestions are much appreciated!

the thorns sound like something you would like, its a couple years old but great. Make sure you get the re-release of the album with extra disc. worth the couple extra dollars. they are very csny-ish

Ray Lamontange- trouble. if you like it, and you will, buy his second cd

Amos Lee - first album is self titled- its great

Ryan Adams - heartbreaker (a must have), Gold, love is hell, demolition, basically any ryan adams cd

whiskeytown pnemouniom(sp?)

one very few have heard of is Dolorean - not exotic,

wilco yankee hotel foxtrot

sun kil moon - ghost of great american highways & tiny cities (modest mouse covers) is one of the best cds i have bought in years

all theseare pretty acoustic and will increase your indie cred with the ladies, i think i convinced my wife to marry me listening to obscure bands on our couch...

hope that helps

alot of theses can be found on coug*torrents*cough, i download alot of cds before i buy them cause i hate buying bad cds.

When I saw what you liked, the first thing that came to mind was a 2 CD live album that Dave Matthews put out maybe 7 years ago, it was recorded at some theatre. These albums are killer for acoustic and singing. Check it out.

As for new stuff, I do listen to the radio and try to keep up with the new sh**, and I really like:

Rockstar: Supernova
The Killers - Their two albums

www.pandora.com

Create a free account and then build your own free web "radio station".

Start with an artist that you like and the site will play a track from an artist that is considered similar. Rate each track as a hit or a miss and they will fine tune the selections as you go along.

You are guaranteed to find at least a couple of gems per hour.

Cool stuff.
