Default Have you read BP\'s, Between the Numbers

How many of you guys read Baseball Prospectus' book Between the Numbers?

I believe this book should be a prerequisite for posting in this forum. This book applies not only to baseball, but to all other game driven sports.

IMHO this book is tantamount to Sklansky's TOP. Many of you will completely change the way you look at sports, especially baseball after reading this book. It basically gives you the fundamentals to analyzing sports as if it were a science.

To me, it will really add to the forum if we can get everyone to read this book.

So, for those who have read it, whats your opinion and do you agree with me?

Im sure there are other books that are probably decent but have yet to find one.

And for a slight counterpoint to this opinion, you should read the book. Honestly, the true added value of steals to overall wins was eye-opening.

I understand baseball but am not a huge fan. Care to give me a basic summary of the book as it relates to other sports.

As many in the forum know I have a somewhat unique view on sports. Some sports, such as baseball, are very individualistic and one can therefore rely upon stats to assess players. However sports like basketball and especially football involve a ton of outside factors, most importantly the quality of your teamates, so the best players often don't have the best stats. Also, in these sports many teams play many different styles which skews stats further. Therefore, imo in these sports one can only gauge the quality of a player by watching him and/or listening to a respected analysist discuss that player.

With that said, I would be interested in reading the book, but I'd like to hear a review of it first from some people.
