Charitable donations

There are a few days left in 2006 and if you are making tax-deductable charitable donations, you need to do it now to count against your 2006 income.

With the dollar amts disclosed, here are a few charities I am giving money to, and Im curious where others are donating poker money.

ICFG.org - My mom is the CEO of the International Center for Journalism. Its a non-profit and it focuses on training journalists to cover stories in third-world countries, among other things.

Julius Barnathan Scholarship Fund -- a fund set up in my grandfathers name to provide aid for one graduate student in communications each year.

Savedarfur.org -- Its the worst conflict on the planet.

do you actually consider deep africa "western society"? or are you saying it makes you sick that western society hasnt stopped this yet?

and im big on giving to good charities... but i dont think id ever give to an african charity that overlapped in any way with any african government because of their massive amounts of corruption and specifically widespread charity theft. but if it bypasses them completely, then it seems like a good thing.

I donated to the Humane Society and to a local homeless shelter this past week. I'll probably do more before the end of the year. I always like to see people making threads about this stuff, since combined this forum has more than enough money to make a difference.

Does anyone else hate/boycott United Way as much as I do? Charge highest admin fees of all charitable organizations, corrupt management, etc.
