Default Trip Report: Watching an Ex-NBA star play rec league b-ball

So every Monday night the rec bball team I am on plays. SomethingClever is also on said team. We basically own teams in the D and E League. For those of you who don't know, SC is very much an AI like player. He BALLS. Another interesting thing about him is his shot is more of a gyroball shot. It actually spins sideways. But whats more astounding is that he hits like 50% from the arc.

Anyways, before our pwnage, we had the chance to watch some of an A/B league game.

So we are kickin it, shooting the [censored], scripting plays. Next thing you know,
SC says "Hey is that Jerome-No Mercy-Kersey?"
Of course me not really being from P-Town, I say "[censored] if I know"

Shortly there after SC's buddy shows up and proclaims "Hey, Jerome-No Mercy-Kersey is out there playing"

That was all the confirmation we needed.

For those who don't know who No Mercy is, some info:

Basketball Reference

It was pretty spectacular watching Kersey lob up 20 footers, walk up and down the court, get owned by small white guys, and overall just not give a [censored].

One of the refs for our game came over and said to us "You guys can either watch an out of shape Jerome Kersey, or you can come warm up over here"

Tough choice, but we didn't need the warm up.

We still won by 25.

Anyone else had the chance to watch an old fart still play somewhere after his career was over?

Sure, I played with Dolph Schayes a couple times. He's a Hall of Famer but, unsurprisingly, he can't run up the court as well in his sixties.

Yeah, I'm a big SF Giants fan. See a few every night during the summer. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

TSC,

Our gym league over the past couple of years has seen some ex-NBA'ers join on. Mark West and Frank Johnson weren't ever all-stars but have about 20 years of service between them. They were on the same league team for awhile which is lame because they're both still very fit and our league plays SHORT full court. Also, Jeff Hornacek fills in on one of the teams and is apparently going to join us full-time next season.

Among less notable guys that have played pickup with us would be Tim Kempton (total spaz), John Ameche (played for the Magic and others for awhile, great guy). Also, Paul Westphal a time or two before he took the job in Seattle.

I guess Kersey was banging this chick I went to homecoming with back in his short-lived Seattle days. (this was years after high school). Another friend of mine and I figure that's a really encouraging thought for this girl's husband now.

So if you see him again, ask him if he's a fan of the Sea Gals.

Taraz,

You're no longer just a scrub in my book. You're like, King Scrub.
